I want to marry my cat!!

Well, not really, I don't have a cat...don't like cats if you're forcing me to be honest. But this was the first thing I thought of when the libs in Kalifornia went nuts over Prop 8. I don't think they understand that it isn't gay people getting married that has most people freaked out. It is the redefinition of marriage. I really don't think that most people care if Ellen and Portia get married or not. I think that they care if marriage becomes a joke. If you redefine marriage for one group, it will have to be redefined for everyone. Suddenly it won't just be Mr. Sulu and his longtime partner sharing the toothpaste. First the polygamists will insist that we allow 1 man to be legally married to 24 women, bigamy will have to be legal and, since this is America...the most creative country in the world, there will be a guy on a ranch in Montana who wants to marry his horse, a woman in upstate New York who wants to marry her cat, and a geek in Washington State who wants to marry his AlienWare; and the ACLU will charge into court to see to it that everyone is allowed to marry anyone and anything they want.

Because, you see, that's how we roll, we want the freedom to do and have whatever we want, but we don't want to have to think about pesky little things like consequences. The libs have taught us that it really doesn't matter the environment children are raised in, they are who they are no matter if their mother is a horse. They have taught us that personal repsonsiblity and accountability are only for conservatives, everyone else can say what they like and that's freedom of speech, they can do what they like and if someone dies in the process, well that's because of the sugar in Twinkies.

So, to all my liberal friends out there, people who vote against gay marriage aren't haters, nor do they want anyone to have less freedoms than anyone else, they just don't want geeks to marry their computers, get a surrogate to have a baby for them and call that a family.

good blog, as always Dede....I shall be back with further comment, but first I must stop snickering snarkily at this:

and a geek in Washington State who wants to marry his AlienWare;

*giggle*

I thought you would giggle at that. I just hope the geek does too!

Ahem, I live in Washington state and that geek marrying his computer thing is no joke. It could totally happen. I'm not sure how it would be consummated, but I'm pretty sure risk of electrocution will be a factor. This can only end in tragedy.

hmph, I used to live in washington state, and, um...I'm pretty attached to my alienware, also, I am a geek...that said, my alienware has, um...performance problems at present, so...there shall be no nuptials!

All seriousness aside...
This isn't an issue of civil rights or equality.
A homosexual man has every right to marry a woman if wants to...as do I.
I, a heterosexual man, cannot marry another man...nor can the homosexual man.

Sounds pretty equal to me....where's the discrimination?

It's all about social re-engineering. By forcing such radical cultural changes upon society, they can inculcate future generations into their way of thinking.
And I can write a book on why that isn't a good thing at all.

Consider that in my home town of Portland, OR we are dealing with the THIRD openly homosexual government or public official who was caught having carnal relations with underage boys in the past 20 years.
I can't even recall when a heterosexual politician or public official in this town was caught having similiar relations with underage girls.

And consider, in our lifetime, how many homosexual congressman in DC were caught having sex with teen boys while in office.
Fred Richmond...
Robert Bauman...
Barney Frank (he actually operated a gay teen brothel in his taxpayer-funded DC condo!)...
Gerry Studds...
Mark Foley...

...and that's just off the top of my head.

Now how many heterosexual congressmen in that same time period were caught having sex with teen girls?

Food for thought, in my opinion.
Great blog, by the way!

Remember when women were going through the phase of marrying themselves, so they could have a wedding shower and register.

That was probably started in CA, too. Weird!

Well done. It's very well done. It's good enough I wish I wrote it. You get it. You not only write well and get it and make it digestible. I will be back to read more. Please continue with encouragement.

Straight couples can get married on the spur of the moment in Las Vegas and animals can marry other animals but 2 ppl in love wanting to commit to each other is going to turn marriage into a joke....?

Yes! redefining what marriage is or is not can and will destroy the timeless institution.
A marriage between animals is NOT a marriage in the current definition of marriage. This is a prime example of what happens when you redefine marriage. You equate marriage as something two animals can do! This is not marriage and if you redefine it then you will have to allow for broader and broader definition.
those who (as stated earlier) want to marry an animal will have to be allowed. They can argue that their horse is a being just like you are and that they share a love relationship just like humans do.
The National assoc. of Men boy Love shoild be allowed to marry because we have no right to define marriage or to restrict it based on age descrimination. They would argue that we "the bigots" set unfair standards on age in relation to sex and marriage. the list of scenarios can go on and on and on and ....you get the point i hope?
